Hensel, Rainer (2010) The sixth sense in professional development.

A study on the role of personality, attitudes and feedback concerning professional development. An important conclusion of this study is that the experienced meaningfulness concerning competence development is based on personal growth needs, not on the strategic intent of the organization. The effect of personal growth needs on the overall attitude is fully mediated by the experienced meaningfulness. The need for personal growth concerning competence development has strong relationships with social aspects of work like synergy and good cooperation between colleagues (sociability), with openess to change and goal directedness.
